Senior Experience with the APCYF

Interning with the Arlington Partnership for Children, Youth, and Families= Invaluable Work Experience.

Today is my last day on the job as an intern at the Arlington Partnership for Children, Youth, and Families, a position I landed via the senior experience program at Yorktown High School. For those readers not familiar with this program, it is an opportunity offered to twelfth graders to shadow a mentor, anyone from an old teacher to a senator to the person I followed around: the fabulous Kim Durand, the coordinator for the Arlington Partnership for Children, Youth, and Families.

I have learned so much these past three weeks. The Partnership's mission statement is "to improve the health, wellbeing, and safety of children, youth, and families in Arlington...", so it is safe to say that I acquired a lot of  knowledge regarding the inner-workings of my community. I attended many meetings outlining how to promote healthy change within the county, met a ton of important Arlington and Virginia leading individuals, and gained valuable insight into how the working world operates. It was a fabulous and extremely worthwhile experience, and I'm so glad I chose to intern with APCYF.

I would like to thank the Partnership staff for welcoming me so wholeheartedly into their office: Michael, Sally, Siobhan, Kate, Phillip, and Amy! And of course, a big shout out to my wonderful mentor, Kim, for taking me under her wing and teaching me so much. Thanks guys, I had an amazing time!
