The New Top 40

A compilation of the new must-have music for the summer, according to Arlington high-schoolers

You’re cruising down the road (no more than 5 mph over the speed limit of course ;) ) with the top down, enjoying the feeling of the wind whipping your hair around like the trees in the storm last weekend, and you turn on the radio. Chances are you’ll hear one of a few summer sounds that are the latest craze for the 2012 school-free season.

Carly Rae Jepson, Gotye, Usher, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Rihanna: Sure, they’re great. There’s a reason they have the most popular singles in the country right now, and the reason they are so over-played. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for something new.
So I set out on a mission (via Facebook) to find out what under-the-radar music other teens have on their summer playlists. With the help my friends from all over the area, I have compiled my own list of the summer Top 40 hits that everyone should be listening to (not in order by popularity, or anything in particular). Whether you’re heading on an exotic vacation or baking in this Arlington heat, these songs are sure to aid your rest and relaxation or spark your need to party. Enjoy!
