Coping with Stress

by Teen Intern, Neeka Samimi

We all face school-related stress. Here are some tips on how to deal with stress when school just seems too hard to handle.

The most important thing to remember is that your stress is not incurable and can generally be solved by reexamining yourself. Firstly, take a look at your habits. Are you really trying your hardest or are you slacking off and procrastinating until you have to scramble to complete a project the night before it's due? Much of your stress will disappear once you consciously make efforts to manage your time well. Suddenly, you won't have to worry about doing your entire science project the same night you write a paper, because you'll have done it in small chunks over a longer period of time.

But if you're really trying your hardest and still worried about your grades, realize that you're just a human! You're not expected to be a perfect robot. Everyone has their bad days. If the classes you're taking are just too hard to keep up with, don't be afraid to talk to your parents and your guidance counselor about switching courses. If you don't want to change your classes, talk to them about how you manage time. If you're overbooked, you may need to drop a club or two.

If your problem is rooted in anything else, you still need to talk to your parents and guidance counselor about it. They can help you, but only if you tell them what's wrong.
