Volunteer Spotlight: Red Cross Youth Team

volunteering!
The Arlington Red Cross Youth Team is a group of teens ranging from ages 12-18. The group is designed to promote health through various activities in our community to further advance Red Cross priorities.
Originally, the group met twice a month at the Arlington Red Cross Chapter. Unfortunately, due to budget cuts, the group now meets once a month at the Arlington Central Public Library. At these Youth Team meetings, members collaborate to plan 1-2 new and innovative volunteer opportunities for the following month. The members also have smaller volunteer activities such as making pamphlets for Red Cross classes to distribute to students.
I have been a Youth Team member since the fall of 2009 and it has been an overall fun and self-rewarding experience to give back to my community in different ways. Activities that I have participated in with the Youth Team are park clean ups which are associated with Evasive Plant removal organizations, flu preparedness and fire safety door tag distribution campaigns, Meals On Wheels, and many others. The Arlington Red Cross Youth Team is a great experience to give back to your community and meet new people.
